1943.1 graduated from the 10th Hei-class flight training course → Omura Naval Air Group → May posted to the 254th Naval Air Group (Hainan Island) → in his first combat he took off without his flying suit and shot down a P-38 → from the end of 1943 into 1944 he intercepted mixed formations of B-24s, B-25s, P-38s and P-40s over Canton, Hong Kong and Hainan Island, becoming the top-scoring ace of the 254th Naval Air Group (9 shot down) → autumn 1944 transferred to the 210th Naval Air Group and returned to Japan → home air defence from the Meiji base → 1945.2.16, during the first carrier raid on the Japanese homeland, he attacked a formation of 10 enemy dive-bombers single-handed over Hamamatsu (3 shot down) → moved forward to the Kokubu base, supporting the Okinawa special attack operations
