Born in Ishikawa Prefecture; graduated from the 49th Pilot Trainee Course in 1940.6; the following year he was ordered aboard the carrier Shokaku, taking part in the Hawaii operation and the Indian Ocean, Coral Sea, Second Solomons and South Pacific battles → end of 1942 returned to the Omura Naval Air Group → 1943.12 the 204th Naval Air Group, then transferred to the 253rd Naval Air Group (active in the interception fighting over Rabaul and Truk; commended by the commanding officer for intercepting B-24s with Type 3 bombs) → 1944.6.19, on the way from Truk to Guam under Lt Cdr 岡本晴年 to join the decisive battle for the Marianas, he was shot down by Grumman F6Fs just before landing; he came down on the shore with severe burns but was rescued, and escaped a few days later by land-based attack bomber → he returned to Japan and was with the Yokosuka Naval Air Group at the end of the war

It is said that he was a fierce-tempered, rough-and-ready pilot
