After graduating from Marugame Middle School he entered the naval barracks → 1934.7 graduated from the 24th pilot trainee class → Ōmura / Yokosuka / Kanoya naval air groups → 1937.10 the 〔13th Naval Air Group〕 (Central China front) → 1937.11.22 his first combat, in the attack on Nanjing; two shot down → 1937.12.9, in the attack on Nanchang, he shot down one and then collided head-on with an enemy aircraft, returning to base with one wing → 1938.3 returned to 〔Yokosuka Naval Air Group〕 → end of 1939 the 〔12th Naval Air Group〕 (the attacks on Liuzhou and Guilin) → back to 〔Yokosuka Naval Air Group〕 → 1942.12 attached to the 〔582nd Naval Air Group〕, the Solomons front → 1943.3.6 failed to return from air combat over the Russell Islands; officially declared killed in action.
Returned to base with only one wing remaining; Navy Minister 米内 presented him with a photograph on which he had brushed the words 'the greatest and the strongest，the most profound and the most subtle' (roughly, 'supremely great and resolute, supremely profound and subtle')
