War record

Born in Mie Prefecture; graduated from the 26th pilot trainee course in March 1935; a seasoned pilot with ten years of flying by the end of the war → joined Kaga in November 1936, and the China Incident broke out the following year; his first action was the air battle over Shanghai on 16 August (one reconnaissance-bomber shared) → returned to the Kasumigaura Naval Air Group at the end of that year; after service aboard the carrier Ryujo and with the Iwakuni, Genzan and Ōita Naval Air Groups he transferred in November 1943 to Fighter Squadron 601 of the 〔301st Naval Air Group〕, moved up to Iwo Jima at the end of June the following year and shot down six F6Fs in the interceptions of 3 and 4 July → in July he transferred to Fighter Squadron 701, flying the Shiden-Kai, and as part of the T force took part in the air battles off Taiwan and off Leyte; he then transferred to the 〔343rd Naval Air Group〕 and fought on in the air defence of the home islands, being wounded twice, until the end of the war.
