Born 1916, the fourth son of 白根竹介, Chief Cabinet Secretary → Tokyo Prefectural Fourth Middle School → the Naval Academy → 1939.3 completed 〔the 31st flight training course〕 → 1939.3 attached to the 〔12th Naval Air Group〕, moved up to Hankou → 1940.8.19 took part in the first attack on Chongqing with the new Zero fighter; in the attack on Chongqing on 9.13, thirteen aircraft under the command of Lieutenant 進藤三郎 shot down 27 enemy aircraft, one of them by Lieutenant j.g. 白根 → 1941.5 promoted Lieutenant; in the Pacific War he was a division leader aboard Akagi, taking part in the Darwin, Indian Ocean and Midway operations → 1942.7 division leader aboard Zuikaku, fighting hard in the Second Battle of the Solomons and the Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands → November returned to the 〔Yokosuka Naval Air Group〕 → 1943.11 squadron leader of the 〔341st Naval Air Group〕, formed with the new Shiden fighter → at the end of 1944.10 he led the Shiden unit he had trained himself (Fighter Squadron 701) up to マルコット base on Luzon and took part in the Leyte air battles → 1944.11.24 shot down and killed in combat with P-38s over Ormoc Bay.
