Born to a farming family in Fukushima Prefecture (the eighth of nine children); 1937 joined the navy, moved from maintenance rating to pilot and completed the 50th Pilot Trainee Course in 1940.6 → the following April posted to the 12th Naval Air Group (Central China front; few notable air combats) → his first victory was an SB bomber shot down during the attack on Chengdu on 22 May, and he had a score of 3 by the time he transferred to the Tainan Naval Air Group in October → in the Pacific War he was active in the air battles over the Philippines and the Netherlands East Indies → 1942.4 transferred to the Omura Naval Air Group; September aboard Jun'yo for operations in the Southeast Area (fighting through the Solomons and New Guinea fronts) → 1943.9 transferred to the 204th Naval Air Group, where he distinguished himself in the defensive and offensive fighting over Buin and Rabaul → killed in the interception over Rabaul on 24 October

On one occasion, single-handedly shot down two of the B-24s that had come in on a raid
