War record

Served as the leading unit of the 河村 Brigade in the capture of Alor Star, Taiping, Kuala Lumpur and other places→on the night of 8 February 1942 the 市川 battalion led the crossing of the Johore Strait (hard going, as the low tide meant no tank support)→forced through the key ground of Bukit Timah (its water supply and road junctions)→at dawn on 11 February, opened the attack on Bukit Timah→on 14 February the British raised a white flag and offered to surrender, and Singapore fell→the book records that after the war the regimental commander, the division commander and several others were held responsible for the purge of Singapore's Chinese population and were executed as Class B/C war criminals

The book gives a detailed account of how a British military envoy appeared bearing a white flag when Singapore fell.
