Its colours were captured by the Satsuma army in the Satsuma Rebellion (the acting regimental commander was Nogi Maresuke). Just after new colours were issued the following year, the old ones turned up — but the War Ministry, unsure what to do with them, put them in a wooden box, and they were forgotten. A lieutenant found them while tidying a storeroom 47 years later, in 1925. What became of them after that is not known.
