23 March 1944, received its colours at Takasaki→under the 33rd Division→in the Imphal operation, tried to encircle the Indian 17th Division in the Tonzang district (the 笹原 regiment leading)→the British-Indian forces broke through the line of retreat and the main body got away (the encirclement at Tonzang failed)

The regiment missed the chance to encircle the Indian 17th Division at Tonzang, and let the enemy's main force retreat.
