Formed at Tsu→under the 16th Division→October 1944, took up the defence of the Tacloban sector on Leyte→fought the American landing force, said to be eighteen times its strength, and had a hard time of it→later kept up resistance in the Santa Fe sector and elsewhere

The regiment fought American landing forces at Tacloban, reportedly outnumbered as much as 18 to 1.
