War record

Before the Pacific War the regiment was formed and trained in Taiwan for the invasion of the Philippines→was switched from the Philippine front to the invasion of Java (placed in the 48th Division's order of battle)→before dawn on 1 March 1942, landed near Tjilatjap on the north coast of Java at the same time as the 坂口 Detachment→advanced inland to secure the bridge at Kediri→hurried as far as Kertosono and took the Kediri bridge intact→after the Java operation, moved to Surabaya when the Netherlands Indies forces surrendered

The book records an episode in which Regimental Commander 柳 worried that the bridge had fallen to the enemy, when in fact it had been captured intact.
