War record

July 1943, formed at Tottori and received its colours→September 1943, landed at Tuluvu at the western end of New Britain and was attached to the 松田 Detachment (shipping engineers, shipping artillery and others)→took up the defence around the Tuluvu airfield→fought hard under US and Australian attack, with many losses→January 1944, began the move to Rabaul; losses are given as reaching about 50 per cent

As the main strength of the 松田 Detachment, the regiment defended Tuluvu airfield from three directions, but lost half its men to the American-Australian counterattack and withdrew.
