8 July 1943, received its colours at Takada→under the 31st Division, with Major General 宮崎繁三郎 commanding the regiment→1944, took part in the attack on Kohima and the fighting for Sangshak→about two months of attrition, with some 500 killed and wounded→with supply cut off and the situation worsening, the division commander 佐藤 decided on his own authority to withdraw
The regiment fought a two-month war of attrition against British-Indian forces over a three-way road junction at Kohima, but could not break through, and withdrew on the division commander's own authority.
