1932年2月25日 進水→1932年11月15日 竣工→1942年3月1日、スラバヤ沖海戦に参加。エクセターへの雷撃後、艦長竹内一の命令によりイギリス兵376名を救助→1942年11月12-14日、第三次ソロモン海戦（両夜戦）に参加→1942年12月、マダン・ウェワク攻略作戦（ム号作戦）の輸送に従事→1943年3月27日、アッツ島沖海戦に護衛部隊として参加（海戦自体には不参加）→1944年4月、修理により姉妹艦「雷」沈没後は第6駆逐隊で「響」との2隻編制となる→1944年5月14日、シブツ海峡でアメリカ潜水艦ボーンフィッシュの雷撃を受け沈没、乗員169名戦死（121名は「響」に救助）。1944年6月10日除籍
