1901年(イギリス・ロバート・ダンカン社) 進水→1901年10月 竣工→1905年1月 日露戦争中に対馬海峡で鹵獲され、沖ノ島丸を経て若宮丸と命名、輸送船として使用→1913年-1914年 水上機母艦への改装工事→1914年8月-11月 青島攻略戦に参加→1914年9月5日 青島の戦いで世界初の海上空襲を実施→1915年6月 二等海防艦となり「若宮」と改名→1920年4月1日 航空母艦に類別変更(日本で初めて空母籍に入る)→1931年4月1日除籍、1932年解体。
日本海軍初の水上機母艦。第一次世界大戦中の1914年9月5日、青島の戦いで世界初の海上空襲を行った。
