1937年9月16日 進水→1938年12月18日(竣工時艦名は伊号第七十五潜水艦、1942年5月20日に伊号第百七十五潜水艦へ改称) 竣工→1941年12月 真珠湾攻撃時にオアフ島南方で米艦船の偵察を実施、マウイ島カフルイ・パルミラ環礁を砲撃→1942年5月 第2次K作戦に参加するも中止→1942年7-8月 オーストラリア東方海域で通商破壊戦に従事→1943年5-6月 キスカ島撤退作戦に参加、物資輸送と人員収容を実施→1943年11月24日 ギルバート方面のマキン沖で米護衛空母リスカム・ベイを雷撃、撃沈→1944年1月 マーシャル諸島方面へ進出中に消息を絶つ→1944年2月17日、タロア島北東沖(北緯10度34分東経173度31分付近)で米駆逐艦ニコラスの爆雷攻撃により撃沈。乗員100名全員戦死。1944年7月10日除籍。
米護衛空母リスカム・ベイを撃沈したことで知られる。
