1925年9月2日 進水→1927年9月5日(竣工時艦名は伊号第五十五潜水艦[初代]、1942年5月20日に伊号第百五十五潜水艦へ改称) 竣工→1941年12月 マレー作戦に参戦、カムラン湾方面で活動→1942年2月 蘭貨客船バン・ランシャージ、バン・クルーンを撃破・撃沈、英貨物船デリーモアを雷撃で撃沈→1942年5月20日 伊号第百五十五潜水艦に改称→1942年6月 北方(幌筵・キスカ島)への補給輸送任務に従事、以後練習艦となる→1945年7月 予備艦となり潜水学校に繋留されて終戦を迎える→1945年11月20日除籍。1946年5月、伊予灘で米軍により海没処分。
竣工時の艦名は伊号第五十五潜水艦(初代)で、1942年5月20日に伊号第百五十五潜水艦へ改称された。艦名としての「二代目」伊号第五十五潜水艦(1944年竣工、伊五十二型潜水艦、1944年7月戦没)は別に存在する。
