1943年11月27日 進水→1944年7月31日 竣工→1944年7月31日竣工、舞鶴鎮守府籍、第六艦隊第11潜水戦隊に編入、11月5日第34潜水隊に編入→1944年11月25日、ラモン湾北東150浬付近で米機動部隊を発見、米空母ワスプらしき艦に魚雷4本を発射（連合軍側に該当艦船なし）→1945年2月3日、ルソン島東方で兵員輸送船団を護衛中の米護衛駆逐艦ティスデールにソナー探知され攻撃を受けるも離脱→1945年2月10日、スリガオ東南東で船団を発見し魚雷4本を発射、米戦車揚陸艦LST-577に命中。同日夜、イシャーウッドの爆雷攻撃を受け損傷→1945年8月11-16日、舞鶴から大連へ往復。8月15日終戦、第34潜水隊解隊により第15潜水隊に編入→1945年11月30日除籍。1946年4月1日、米軍による日本潜水艦処分作戦「ローズエンド作戦」により五島列島沖で爆破・海没処分。2017年9月7日、沈没艦の調査により本艦と特定された（2017年現在は正立状態で沈んでいる）。
呂三十五型潜水艦（中型）の16番艦で、同型艦で終戦まで活動した唯一の艦。撃沈総数1隻・1,625トン。
