War record

August 1942 (part of the 7th Division). The 一木 Detachment (Colonel 一木清直, built around the 28th Infantry Regiment) was formed to retake Guadalcanal→on the night of 18 August the advance echelon landed near Taivu Point→before dawn on 21 August it made a night attack on the US Marine beachhead→stopped by American interlocking fire, the advance echelon was destroyed, and the book records that Colonel 一木 was killed

According to the book, Colonel 一木 believed it was "traditional for a detachment to attack along the coast using only night raids," and had taught this tactic for many years at the Army Infantry School.

Core of the Ichiki Detachment. Colonel Kiyonao Ichiki held that a detachment attacks along the coast by night assault alone, and taught that method for years at the Army Infantry School

This card is made only of facts copied from one book. Only what can be confirmed against a primary source will one day become 🟢. An empty field means the book does not say. Nothing has been filled in by guesswork.
