January 1942, too late to secure the Perak River bridge→forced a way through a defensive position about 6 km deep in front of Kuala Lumpur, working with tanks and engineers→contributed to the capture of Kuala Lumpur→moved south along the east coast of the Malay Peninsula and joined the assault on Singapore at Kluang→transferred to the Burma front (the Hukawng valley)→after the defensive fighting in northern Burma, fell back towards the Sittang
