War record

Received its colours in 1905→formed at Sakura, under the 1st Division→November 1944, moved up to the Limon Pass front in northern Leyte and fought hard with US forces over the pass road→kept up a protracted defence for about a month and a half, and it is recorded that even American commanders praised the skill of its fighting→13 February 1945, its strength reached what the book calls the "breaking point" and it withdrew; very few survivors reached Limon Pass

According to the book, the regiment held Limon Pass for a month and a half, and its skilful fighting was praised even by the opposing American commander.

Its colours were carried out of Leyte in pieces after the war and placed in Yasukuni Shrine; ruins remain at the Sakura Castle site
