Received its colours in 1905→under the 14th Division→17 September 1944, US forces landed on Angaur, and the 1st Battalion (Major 後藤丑雄) met them against odds of eighteen to one→shifted to a redoubt position in limestone caves and fought on→by mid-October almost the whole battalion had been killed; about 150 survived as prisoners

Despite an overwhelming numerical disparity of 18 to 1, the regiment continued to resist from a fortified position built around a limestone cave.

This card is made only of facts copied from one book. Only what can be confirmed against a primary source will one day become 🟢. An empty field means the book does not say. Nothing has been filled in by guesswork.
