War record
April 1945 (part of the 4th Division). The 14th Army's first attempt on Bataan bogged down→for the full-scale second Bataan offensive the regiment was rushed from Shanghai and on 1 April 1942 took position on the extreme right of the Bataan line→3 April, opened the attack and broke through the US–Filipino positions→6 April, threw back a US–Filipino counter-attack→9 April the US–Filipino forces surrendered and the capture of Bataan was complete
According to the book, the fighting followed textbook form: "the artillery ploughed the ground, and after the bombardment the infantry advanced in orderly fashion."

As written in the book. Within the same account, the operation itself is dated to 1942.
Known for a local ditty — "Lost again, the Eighth." Its Wikipedia article, however, states that the regiment lost no battle in particular, and where the song came from is not clear.
