1942年4月2日 進水→1943年2月28日 竣工→1944年5月4日-9月29日、連合艦隊旗艦を務める→1944年10月、レイテ沖海戦（エンガノ岬沖海戦）に第三艦隊第一機動部隊として参加、小沢中将旗艦「瑞鶴」沈没後に一時旗艦役を代行→1944年12月、礼号作戦（ミンドロ島突入作戦）に挺身部隊として参加→1945年2月、北号作戦に参加し南方物資を内地へ輸送→1945年3月19日、呉軍港空襲で至近弾・直撃弾を受け大破→1945年7月24日・28日、呉軍港空襲で再び被弾し横転大破→1945年7月28日、呉軍港空襲で被弾し横転大破・着底。1945年11月20日除籍。1947年浮揚、1948年解体
