A base force stood one level above the guard units: under a fleet, it bound the defense of a whole area together, with guard and defense units beneath it. When the shelf above says “attached to the 6th Base Force,” that 6th Base Force is here. Same well as the guard units — the base-force and special-base-force lists at war-memoire-db.org.

1 第1根拠地隊(初代)→上海方面根拠地隊 🟡 Formed December 1937 as a base force directly under the 3rd Fleet, responsible for Shanghai. Renamed in November 1939 and attached to the China Area Fleet. It went on directing gunboats and guard units in the Shanghai area until the end of the war, when it was abolished. 昭和12年 根拠地隊・特別根拠地隊 昭和12年12月，第3艦隊直属の根拠地隊として編成．上海を担当．14年11月，改称と同時に支那方面艦隊附属となる．以後終戦まで砲艦や警備隊を指揮下に上海方面の作戦を担当し続けた．終戦で廃止．
2 第1根拠地隊（二代）→第21特別根拠地隊 🟡 Formed November 1940 under the 2nd Fleet; under the 3rd Fleet from April 1941. Reorganised as a special base force in March 1942, responsible for the defence of Surabaya, and placed under the 2nd Southern Expeditionary Fleet that April. Abolished at the end of the war. 昭和15年 根拠地隊・特別根拠地隊 昭和15年11月編成．第2艦隊隷下．16年4月第3艦隊隷下．17年3月特別根拠地隊に改編．スラバヤの防備を担当．同年4月第2南遣艦隊隷下．終戦で廃止．
3 第1根拠地隊（三代） 🟡 Formed October 1942 and assigned to the 8th Fleet. Abolished at the end of the war. 昭和17年 根拠地隊・特別根拠地隊 昭和17年10月編成．第8艦隊に編入．終戦で廃止．
4 第2根拠地隊（二代）→第22特別根拠地隊 🟡 Formed January 1941. From December it took part in the invasions of the Philippines and Java, and after the occupation it garrisoned Balikpapan. Reorganised as the 22nd Special Base Force in March 1942 and disbanded at the end of the war. 昭和16年 根拠地隊・特別根拠地隊 昭和16年1月編成．12月以降比島・ジャワ攻略戦に参加．占領後はバリクパパンの守備に就いた．17年3月，第22特別根拠地隊に改編された．終戦で解隊．
5 第2特別根拠地隊 🟡 Newly raised December 1942 under the 8th Fleet, responsible for eastern New Guinea. Transferred to the newly raised 9th Fleet in November 1943 and disbanded in March 1944, merging with the 7th Base Force to become the 27th Special Base Force. 昭和17年 根拠地隊・特別根拠地隊 昭和17年12月新編．第8艦隊隷下．東部ニューギニアを担当．18年11月新編の第9艦隊に転属，19年3月解隊．第7根拠地隊と合併し第27特別根拠地隊となった．
6 第3根拠地隊（初代）→厦門方面特別根拠地隊→厦門警備隊 🟡 Established November 1938 under the 5th Fleet to garrison the captured city of Amoy. In November 1939 the Yokosuka 2nd Special Naval Landing Force and the 1st Defence Unit were added and it was reorganised and renamed a special base force. It became a guard unit in April 1942 but reverted to a special base force that November. Abolished at the end of the war. 昭和13年 根拠地隊・特別根拠地隊 昭和13年11月，攻略した厦門警備のため第5艦隊の下に設置．14年11月横須賀鎮守府第2特別陸戦隊，第1防備隊を加えて特別根拠地隊に改編，改称．17年4月警備隊となるが11月再び特別根拠地隊．終戦で廃止．
7 第3根拠地隊（二代）→第3特別根拠地隊（初代） 🟡 Formed November 1940 and reorganised as a special base force in April 1942, taking up the defence of the Palau Islands. Disbanded June 1942. 昭和15年 根拠地隊・特別根拠地隊 昭和15年11月編成．17年4月特別根拠地隊に改編．パラオ諸島の警備についた．17年6月解隊．
8 第3特別根拠地隊（二代） 🟡 Formed February 1943 at Tarawa from the Yokosuka 6th Special Naval Landing Force. With its headquarters on Tarawa it was responsible for the defence of the Gilbert Islands. Disbanded January 1944. 昭和18年 根拠地隊・特別根拠地隊 昭和18年2月，横須賀鎮守府第6特別陸戦隊をタラワにて改編．司令部をタラワに置きギルバート諸島の防備を担当．19年1月解隊．
9 第4根拠地隊（初代）→海南島根拠地隊→海南警備府 🟡 Formed on Hainan Island in January 1939 under the 5th Fleet; reorganised in November as the Hainan Base Force, attached to the 2nd China Expeditionary Fleet. In April 1941, valued as a springboard for the southern advance, it was raised to a guard district. With headquarters at Sanya it handled the defence and military administration of Hainan. Abolished at the end of the war. 昭和14年 根拠地隊・特別根拠地隊 昭和14年1月海南島で編成．第5艦隊隷下．11月海南根拠地隊に改編．第2遣支艦隊附属．16年4月南方進攻の基地として重視され警備府に昇格．三亜に司令部を置き海南島の維持警備・軍政を行った．終戦で廃止．
10 第4根拠地隊（二代） 🟡 Formed August 1941, taking over the defence of the Truk and Ponape areas from the 5th Base Force, with headquarters at Truk. In June 1942 it absorbed the 43rd Guard Unit at Palau and also took charge of the western Carolines. It ended the war stranded far behind the front line. 昭和16年 根拠地隊・特別根拠地隊 昭和16年8月編成．第5根拠地隊からトラック・ポナペ方面の防備を引き継ぎ，司令部をトラックに置いた．17年6月，パラオの第43警備隊を編入し西カロリン諸島も担任．戦線の後方に取り残された状態で終戦を迎えた．
11 第5根拠地隊（初代）→第5特別根拠地隊→第5根拠地隊（二代） 🟡 Formed November 1940 under the 4th Fleet at Saipan. Reorganised as a special base force in April 1942 and back to a base force in March 1944. 昭和15年 根拠地隊・特別根拠地隊 昭和15年11月編成．第4艦隊隷下，サイパン．17年4月特別根拠地隊に改編，19年3月再び根拠地隊に改編．
12 第6根拠地隊 🟡 Formed January 1941 under the 4th Fleet, with headquarters at Kwajalein, responsible for the defence of the Marshall Islands. Units on islands never invaded ended the war in isolation. It was the parent organisation of the 64th Guard Unit — the unit of Sato Tomigoro, subject of Fragments of Japan #010. 昭和16年 根拠地隊・特別根拠地隊 昭和16年1月編成．第4艦隊の下でクェゼリンに司令部を置きマーシャル諸島の防衛を担った．上陸の無かった島の部隊は孤立状態で終戦を迎えた．　第64警備隊（佐藤冨五郎＝紙片の日本史 #010 の所属部隊）の上位組織
13 第7根拠地隊（初代）→父島方面根拠地隊 🟡 Formed October 1941 with headquarters at Chichijima in the Ogasawara Islands and assigned to the 5th Fleet. Reorganised as a special base force in July 1942 and transferred to the Yokosuka Naval District force that September. Abolished at the end of the war. 昭和16年 根拠地隊・特別根拠地隊 昭和16年10月編成．司令部を小笠原父島に置き第5艦隊に編入．17年7月特別根拠地隊に改編．9月横須賀鎮守府部隊に編入．終戦で廃止．
14 第7根拠地隊（二代） 🟡 Formed July 1942. It was to advance to Port Moresby, but the failure of that operation kept it at Rabaul; it moved forward to Lae at the end of December and served in eastern New Guinea. Assigned to the 9th Fleet in November 1943 and disbanded in March 1944 when the 27th Special Base Force was raised. 昭和17年 根拠地隊・特別根拠地隊 昭和17年7月編成．モレスビーに進出予定だったが，攻略作戦の失敗によりラバウルにとどまり，12月末にラエへ前進．東部ニューギニア方面の作戦に従事．18年11月第9艦隊に編入．19年3月，27特根の新編に伴い解隊．
15 第8特別根拠地隊→第8根拠地隊 🟡 Formed February 1942 at Rabaul; reorganised as a base force in April and assigned to the 8th Fleet in August. Abolished December 1944. 昭和17年 根拠地隊・特別根拠地隊 昭和17年2月編成．ラバウル．4月根拠地隊に改編．8月第8艦隊に編入．19年12月廃止．
16 第9根拠地隊→第9特別根拠地隊 🟡 Formed October 1941 for the defence of Penang; from February 1942 it served as a special base force defending western Sumatra, and came under the 1st Southern Expeditionary Fleet in April. Moved to Sabang in September 1943 and disbanded at the end of the war. 昭和16年 根拠地隊・特別根拠地隊 昭和16年10月編成．ペナンの防衛に従事していたが、17年2月以降特別根拠地隊としてスマトラ西部の防衛に従事．4月第1南遣艦隊隷下．18年9月サバンに移動．終戦で解隊．
17 第10特別根拠地隊 🟡 Formed January 1942; from February it took up defence duties centred on the Seletar district of Singapore. Disbanded at the end of the war. 昭和17年 根拠地隊・特別根拠地隊 昭和17年1月編成．2月からシンガポール方面セレター地区を中心とした防衛任務についた．終戦で解隊．
18 第11特別根拠地隊→第11根拠地隊 🟡 Formed at Saigon in November 1941 as the 11th Special Base Force, responsible for the defence of French Indochina. Reorganised as a base force in May 1945 and abolished at the end of the war. 昭和16年 根拠地隊・特別根拠地隊 昭和16年11月サイゴンで第11特別根拠地隊として編成．仏印の防衛を担当．20年5月根拠地隊に改編．終戦で廃止．
19 第12特別根拠地隊 🟡 Formed February 1942; from April it performed garrison duty in the Andaman Islands. Disbanded at the end of the war. 昭和17年 根拠地隊・特別根拠地隊 昭和17年2月編成．4月以降アンダマン諸島で警備にあたった，終戦で解隊．
20 第13根拠地隊 🟡 Formed October 1943 with headquarters at Rangoon, responsible for coastal defence, supply and escort along the Burmese coast. It withdrew to Moulmein in April 1945, moved to Bangkok in August, and was abolished at the end of the war. 昭和18年 根拠地隊・特別根拠地隊 昭和18年10月編成．ラングーンに司令部を置き，ビルマ沿岸の防備や補給・海上護衛を担当．20年4月モールメンに撤退．8月バンコクに転進し終戦で廃止．
21 第14根拠地隊 🟡 Formed December 1943 from the 8th Combined Special Naval Landing Force, responsible for garrisoning New Ireland. Disbanded at the end of the war. 昭和18年 根拠地隊・特別根拠地隊 昭和18年12月第8連合特別陸戦隊を基に編成．ニューアイルランド島の警備を担当．終戦で解隊．
22 第15根拠地隊 🟡 Formed June 1944 by reorganising the units left behind when the 9th Base Force moved from Penang to Sabang. It handled the defence and supply of the Penang area. Abolished at the end of the war. 昭和19年 根拠地隊・特別根拠地隊 昭和19年6月，第9根拠地隊がペナンからサバンへ移動する際の残留部隊を再編．ペナン地区の警備・補給を担った．終戦で廃止．
23 第23特別根拠地隊 🟡 Formed March 1942 from the headquarters of the Celebes Sasebo Combined Special Naval Landing Force and the Sasebo 2nd Special Naval Landing Force, responsible for Celebes and the Lesser Sunda Islands. It moved to Makassar in September and thereafter covered only the Lesser Sundas. Disbanded at the end of the war. 昭和17年 根拠地隊・特別根拠地隊 昭和17年3月，セレベス佐世保連合特別陸戦隊司令部と佐世保第2特別陸戦隊を改編．セレベスと小スンダ列島を担当．9月マカッサルに移り小スンダ列島のみを担当．終戦で解隊．
24 第24特別根拠地隊→第24根拠地隊 🟡 Formed February 1942 with headquarters at Ambon, mainly responsible for the defence of the Sunda Islands. It joined the newly raised 2nd Southern Expeditionary Fleet in March, and in November 1943 was reorganised as a base force on joining the newly raised 4th Southern Expeditionary Fleet. Disbanded September 1944. 昭和17年 根拠地隊・特別根拠地隊 昭和17年2月編成．アンボンに司令部を置き，主にスンダ列島の防衛を担当．3月新編の第2南遣艦隊に所属．18年11月新編の第4南遣艦隊に編入と同時に根拠地隊に改編．19年9月解隊．
25 第25特別根拠地隊→第25根拠地隊 🟡 Newly raised at Kure in December 1942, assigned to the Southwest Area Fleet and sent forward to Manokwari, responsible for western New Guinea. Its headquarters moved to Kaimana in June 1943 and to Ambon in July 1944. Reorganised as a base force in January 1945 and ended the war at Ambon. 昭和17年 根拠地隊・特別根拠地隊 昭和17年12月呉で新編．南西方面艦隊に編入され，マノクワリに進出．西部ニューギニア方面を担当．18年6月司令部をカイマナ移駐．19年7月アンボンへ転進．20年1月，根拠地隊に改編．アンボンで終戦を迎えた．
26 第26特別根拠地隊 🟡 Newly raised at Kau on Halmahera in November 1943, responsible for the defence of western New Guinea. Disbanded May 1945. 昭和18年 根拠地隊・特別根拠地隊 昭和18年11月ハルマヘラ島カウで新編．西部ニューギニアの防衛を担当．20年5月解隊．
27 第27特別根拠地隊 🟡 Formed March 1944 from the 7th Base Force and the 2nd Special Base Force among others. 昭和19年 根拠地隊・特別根拠地隊 昭和19年3月，第7根拠地隊と第2特別根拠地隊等をもって編成．
28 第28特別根拠地隊 🟡 Formed May 1944 from the 18th Guard Unit at Manokwari, the 19th at Biak and the 91st at Sarmi, and assigned to the 4th Southern Expeditionary Fleet. Disbanded July 1945. 昭和19年 根拠地隊・特別根拠地隊 昭和19年5月，マノクワリの第18警備隊，ビアクの第19警備隊，サルミの第91警備隊をもって編成．第4南遣艦隊に編入．20年7月解隊．
29 第30特別根拠地隊→第30根拠地隊 🟡 Formed January 1944 and reorganised that March, taking up the defence of the Palau Islands. Disbanded at the end of the war. 昭和19年 根拠地隊・特別根拠地隊 昭和19年1月編成．3月改編，終戦で解隊．パラオ諸島の警備についた．
30 第31特別根拠地隊（初代） 🟡 Newly raised at Manila in January 1942. Disbanded February 1943. 昭和17年 根拠地隊・特別根拠地隊 昭和17年1月マニラで新編．18年2月解隊．
31 第31特別根拠地隊（二代） 🟡 Re-formed at Manila in September 1944. It served as the core of the Manila Naval Defence Force in the battle for the city and was disbanded at the end of the war. This entry also covers the Manila Naval Defence Force, formed around the 31st Special Base Force with crews of sunken ships and others. 昭和19年 根拠地隊・特別根拠地隊 昭和19年9月マニラで再編．マニラ海軍防衛隊の基幹部隊としてマニラ戦に従事．終戦で解隊． 第31特別根拠地隊に沈没艦船の乗員などを集めて編成されたマニラ海軍防衛隊についても本項で扱う．
32 第32特別根拠地隊 🟡 Newly raised April 1942 under the 2nd Southern Expeditionary Fleet, defending Mindanao from Davao. It was responsible for the false alarm at Davao in September 1944. It withdrew into the mountains and ended the war there. 昭和17年 根拠地隊・特別根拠地隊 昭和17年4月新編．第2南遣艦隊．ダバオ中心にミンダナオ島の防衛に従事．19年9月ダバオ誤報事件を起こす．山中に逃れ終戦．
33 第33特別根拠地隊 🟡 Formed August 1944 for the defence of Cebu. Disbanded at the end of the war. 昭和19年 根拠地隊・特別根拠地隊 昭和19年8月編成，セブ島の防衛に従事．終戦で解隊．
34 第51根拠地隊 🟡 Formed September 1942 around the 5th Guard Unit, responsible for the defence of Kiska. It evacuated the island at the end of July 1943 and was disbanded that August. 昭和17年 根拠地隊・特別根拠地隊 昭和17年9月，第5警備隊を基幹に編成．キスカ島の防備を担当．18年7月末キスカ島を撤退．8月解隊．
35 第52根拠地隊 🟡 Formed May 1943 and based at Ominato for operations in the northeast; its flagship was the minelayer Tokiwa. Disbanded January 1944 when its ships were transferred to the Ominato Guard District force and elsewhere. 昭和18年 根拠地隊・特別根拠地隊 昭和18年5月編成．大湊を拠点に北東方面の作戦に従事．旗艦は敷設艦「常盤」．19年1月，所属の艦艇が大湊警備府部隊などに編入され解隊．
36 沖縄方面根拠地隊 🟡 Formed April 1944 and disbanded that July. 昭和19年 根拠地隊・特別根拠地隊 昭和19年4月編成．7月に解隊された．
37 高雄方面根拠地隊 🟡 Formed May 1945 and assigned to the Takao Guard District. Abolished at the end of the war. 昭和20年 根拠地隊・特別根拠地隊 昭和20年5月編成．高雄警備府に編入．終戦で廃止．
38 千島方面特別根拠地隊→千島方面根拠地隊 🟡 Newly raised November 1942 as the Kuriles Area Special Base Force and assigned to the Ominato Guard District force, responsible for the defence of the Kurile Islands. Reorganised as an area base force in August 1943. From March 1945 most of its strength began moving to the Ominato area for the defence of the homeland; the move was completed in June and the unit was disbanded. Only small guard units remained in the Kuriles thereafter. 昭和17年 根拠地隊・特別根拠地隊 昭和17年11月千島方面特別根拠地隊として新編．大湊警備府部隊に編入．千島の防備を担当．18年8月，方面根拠地隊に改編．20年3月以降，本土防衛のため兵力の大部が大湊付近に転進開始．6月転進が完了し解隊．以後，千島方面には警備隊などわずかな兵力が残留するのみとなった．
39 漢口方面特別根拠地隊 🟡 Formed November 1939 and abolished January 1942. 昭和14年 根拠地隊・特別根拠地隊 昭和14年11月編成．17年1月廃止．
40 広東方面特別根拠地隊→香港方面特別根拠地隊 🟡 Formed November 1939 under the 2nd China Expeditionary Fleet. In December 1941 it moved to the newly occupied Hong Kong and was renamed, taking charge of garrison duty with the Hong Kong Harbour Department and the Canton Guard Unit under its command. Abolished at the end of the war. 昭和14年 根拠地隊・特別根拠地隊 昭和14年11月編成．第2遣支艦隊．16年12月占領した香港に移動，改称．香港港務部や広東警備隊などを麾下に警備を担当．終戦で廃止．
41 青島方面特別根拠地隊 🟡 Formed November 1939 from the units of the operation to occupy Tsingtao. In April 1942 the reduced 3rd China Expeditionary Fleet was merged into the Tsingtao Area Special Base Force. Abolished at the end of the war. 昭和14年 根拠地隊・特別根拠地隊 昭和14年11月青島占拠作戦時の部隊で編成．17年4月縮小された第3遣支艦隊が青島方面特別根拠地隊に統合された．終戦で廃止．
42 旅順口鎮守府→旅順鎮守府→旅順要港部→旅順警備府→旅順方面特別根拠地隊 🟡 Descended from the Port Arthur Naval District established after the capture of the port in the Russo-Japanese War, and formed in January 1942. It guarded Port Arthur and, in cooperation with the Manchukuo Maritime Police, handled anti-submarine patrol and the transport of military supplies. Soviet forces entered on 21 August 1945. 昭和17年 根拠地隊・特別根拠地隊 日露戦争で占領後に設置された旅順口鎮守府をルーツとし，昭和17年1月に編成．旅順港の警備や満州国海上警察隊と協力して対潜警備や軍需品の輸送にあたった．20年8月21日ソ連軍が侵入．
43 羅津根拠地隊→羅津方面特別根拠地隊→元山方面特別根拠地隊 🟡 Newly raised October 1941 and made a special base force in May 1942. Reorganised as the Wonsan Area Special Base Force in July 1945 and abolished at the end of the war. 昭和16年 根拠地隊・特別根拠地隊 昭和16年10月新編．17年5月特別根拠地隊となる．20年7月元山方面特別根拠地隊に改編．終戦で廃止．
44 馬公警備府→馬公方面特別根拠地隊 🟡 Formed April 1943 by reorganising the Makung Guard District. Abolished at the end of the war. 昭和18年 根拠地隊・特別根拠地隊 昭和18年4月馬公警備府を改編．終戦で廃止．
45 第3艦隊(四代)→第1遣支艦隊→揚子江方面特別根拠地隊 🟡 Formed February 1932 on the outbreak of the First Shanghai Incident. When the China Incident began in 1937 it served in operations in central China, and from October that year its headquarters also served as the headquarters of the China Area Fleet. Renamed the 1st China Expeditionary Fleet in November 1939 and demoted to a special base force in August 1943. Abolished at the end of the war. 昭和7年 根拠地隊・特別根拠地隊 昭和7年2月，第1次上海事変の勃発に伴い編制．12年に日華事変が起こると中支方面の作戦に従事．同年10月以降当艦隊司令部は支那方面艦隊司令部を兼任．14年11月第1遣支艦隊に改称，18年8月特別根拠地隊に降格．終戦で廃止．
